I happened into Sean Connery's official site the other day, and there was a button that said write to Mr Connery. So I was like, oh, I'll do that.

So I spent some time working on what to write.

When I submitted it, it said it was too long. So, I cut some out. Resubmit. Too long. Re-edit. Resubmit. Too long. And it went on like that for a while. After about a dozen or so revisions, it was finally accepted.

This is what it ended up as:

R House-L Crus-R Oct R fav of recent wrk-look fwd 2 LofEG-BUT want see U more films-love U, ok if so-so pic-U=THE superstar-legend-icon ala 1970s J Wayne-U=1 only things my dad-mom-sis-bro-I agree on-maybe THE only-hope reach you+health-keep up+work

This was the original version:

Mr Connery,

I have been a huge fan since, probably when the Bond films were first put on video, which was around when Time Bandits was made, and when Hitchcock's Marnie came out on video too. So, a while, at least 20 years.

I remember being so happy when The Untouchables came out, because you finally got past being firstly associated with Bond. I also remember being very happy when you won the Oscar.

Since then, three of your best films have been The Russia House, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and The Hunt for Red October. They are also, I think, three of your best films overall.

My main reason for writing is to say that I'm looking forward to seeing The League of Gentlemen and I hope it's good... But -- and I know that maybe you're in semi-retirement -- and you deserve that -- but you gotta give us more -- at least a film a year!

I'm only partially serious, I'm not really demanding that you owe your fans anything -- or anything like that. It's just that we love you and we love seeing you, even if it's not a great film. You're the closest thing to a John Wayne type of superstar-legend-icon, since, well, John Wayne in the 1970s.

You're really one of the only things that my dad, my mom, my sister, my brother and I all agree on. In fact, you might be the only thing.

Anyway, hope you this email reaches you, and reaches you in good health and everything. Keep up the good work!

I don't know if you answer these, or have time to, but if you do, I'd love to hear back.

Thanks,

Ted Strong, 32, San Francisco
