Binoche and Binoche!! Deborah
Bailey There is a great girl I know, whose name is Deb. This is her 19 Best Films and her 5+ Worst Films lists. Not to be missed: Fargo (this is a great movie, Deb. Nice choice. However, my favorite Coen Bros. film is still Miller's Crossing!)Rushmore (another nice choice. were you in the shit? yeah, i was in the shit.) American Beauty (another great choice! Debs, you're killing me with fantastic choices!) Chasing Amy (oops. I'm afraid I think Kevin Smith is very overrated. Other than the scene where the two girls kiss, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to go with a "oops" choice on your part.) Shakespeare in Love (a very good choice! this movie is better than you'd think. like, oh! shakespeare! oscars! sounds dull! but it is surprisingly funny and in a modern way too, that, at the same time doesn't discredit the era) The English Patient (Debs! You've been reading my website. I wonder if this is only a plea for kindness, as anything with the greatest and most beautiful actress of all-time is fabulous! especially when they give her an Oscar!!) Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid/The Sting (i really like this choice for two reasons: both good movies, both go together with the whole Newman/Redford thing.) The Outlaw Josie Wales (fine mid-70s Eastwood western, also directed by him. I think I still prefer Unforgiven, but OJW has a lot of nice stuff) JFK (probably my favorite Oliver Stone film.) Life is Beautiful (ouch! Harsh. I've had all the Benigni I can take. I had like a Benigni salad, with Benigni sauce, Benigni Canolini and a Benigni Torte for dessert. Laid in my stomach for a week and a half. Clowning in the death camps. Look what Robin Williams did with it in Jakob the Liar -- and brand new form of cinematic evil!) Spaceballs/Young Frankenstein (I hated Spaceballs, but only saw it on it's original release. I'm over my Brooks period, but at times I loved Blazing Saddles, The Producers and Silent Movie. Still haven't seen YF.) Romeo & Juliet -- Franco Zeferelli's version (not a bad choice. I watched this in English class in high school after we [were supposed to have] read the book) Seven -- the most frightening thing I've ever seen -- (outstanding choice! and I knew what was in the box as soon as I saw that a head would fit perfectly into it!) Wuthering Heights -- the PBS version starring Ralph Fiennes (is this the version also with Juliette Binoche? I think so. It was released theatrically in Europe, but only on PBS here in the US) My Dog Skip -- okay...so it made me cry -- (haven't seen) There's Something About Mary -- of course (of course) Good Will Hunting -- sentimental value (I liked this) the original "Grinch that Stole Christmas" cartoon (not a film, but beautiful, and about one million times better than the bloated, boring live-action one out now) Sorry... Oh, and Dr. Zhivago & The Graduate. (Zhivago's a bit much, I love Julie Christie, but for Lean epics prefer Lawrence of Arabia and Bridge on the River Kwai) that completes my Top 19. (very nice work!) NOT worth it: Cradle Will Rock (okay, I see what you're saying) Leaving Las Vegas (oops, no, I liked this one) Wild at Heart -- David Lynch (I see where you are going with this, but am not sure I agree completely) Anything with Sandra Bullock in it except "Speed" (Speed was great and she was great in it, but ever since, pretty much only shit -- you're right) Oh! One last addition-- Liberty Heights to the NOT worth it category. (that's what I heard. looks bad.) deborah bailey Submit Yours to tedstrong@tedstrong.com today! |
