She looks a little like PJ Harvey. And she looks a little like Justine Frischman (sp?) from Elastica. She has strong eyebrows. I've seen her only in one movie so far: The Dreamlife of Angels. More on that (great film) later.

Elodie Bouchez was born on April 5, 1973 in Montreuil, France. She made her motion picture debut at the age of 17 in Stan the Flasher, which was directed by the always controversial musician/filmmaker Serge Gainsbourg. She garnered the attention of critics in no time with a key role in Patrice Leconte's acclaimed film Tango.

However, it was 1993's Les Roseaux Sauvages (also known as Wild Reeds) that earned her international attention. It also earned her the Céasar for the most promising young actress in 1995. While most of the films Elodie appeared in after Les Roseaux Sauvages were well received by the French critics and public alike, it was not until 1999 that U.S. audiences saw Elodie again upon the release of writer/director Erick Zonca's debut film The Dreamlife of Angels.

Audiences and critics in the United Kingdom were highly impressed with Elodie's work in Yolande Zauberman's 1995 film Clubbed to Death. Unfortunately, like most of her films, it failed to secure distribution in the United States. I, however, have just ordered a video copy of it from Amazon.co.uk (the British store).

Elodie will soon be seen in Jean-Marc Barr's English-Language film Lovers, the first "Dogme95" film by a French filmmaker. Goran Visnjic stars with her in this ultra-realistic romantic comedy, which should finally make her a household name in the States. Expect Lovers to gain Elodie lots of attention since it's the first "Dogme95" film from France and it's also in English.

Elodie continues to keep busy as ever. She recently finished the comedy Shooting Vegetarians for director Mikey Jackson, in which she stars alongside Guillermo Diaz and Didi Conn. The Beat Nicks has also completed filming. Directed by Nicholson Williams, it co-stars Patrick Bauchau, Lisa Marie and Eric Roberts. She is working on Terminus des anges for acclaimed director André Téchiné. Two poor young women in France try to find what they want in life while struggling to earn a living and sharing a flat.

She is also working on Le Petit poucet with Romane Bohringer and Catherine Deneuve.

A high profile film she is working on is C.Q. Written and directed by video director Roman Coppola and costarring Jeremy Davies, Gérard Depardieu, Giancarlo Giannini and Jason Schwartzman.

Elodie is set to film Being Light, directed by Pascal Arnold and Jean-Marc Barr, and co-starring Jean-Marc Barr.

Hopefully director Siegfreid's apparently wonderful Louise (Take 2) should be released on video and DVD in France and maybe even in English somewhere...
