Games... must we?

From: Lisa D'Arrigo...

Latest Update: Feb 2008...

I thought I'd send you my list of top ten performances by males for the moment.

1. Heath Ledger - BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN
2. Philip Seymour Hoffman - CAPOTE
3. Peter Sellers - BEING THERE
4. Daniel Day Lewis - IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER
5. Kevin Spacey - THE USUAL SUSPECTS
6. Al Pacino - DOG DAY AFTERNOON
7. Dirk Bogarde - THE SERVANT
8. James Mason - LOLITA
9. Jon Voight - MIDNIGHT COWBOY
10. Sean Penn - DEAD MAN WALKING/Henry Fonda - ONCE
UPON A TIME IN THE WEST

I really just wanted to put P.S. Hoffman and Ledger on a list. Yes, I think Ledger was all that. Pretty upset. Hoffman, I know, steals everything in every movie. One of the best of the best.

Top 10 Male Performances --
Peter Finch - Network
James Mason - Lolita
James Mason - A Star Is Born
Al Pacino - Dog Day Afternoon
Al Pacino - The Godfather
Dustin Hoffman - Midnight Cowboy
Jon Voight - Midnight Cowboy
Ray Milland - The Lost Weekend
Daniel Day Lewis - In The Name of the Father
Anthony Hopkins - The Remains of the Day

Hi, tedstrong.com here. I'll comment on this if I may. Finch is great in Network but Holden is better with a less showy performance. Mason's great in both those. Pacino's great in both those. Haven't seen Midnight Cowboy. I know, I know. Milland is great and kick-ass in Lost Weekend. DDLewis in the IRA thing? Whatever. Hopkins is great in Remains of.

Top 10 Female Performances --
Vivien Leigh - Gone with the Wind
Vivien Leigh - A Streetcar Named Desire
Emily Watson - Breaking the Waves
Lee Remick - The Days of Wine and Roses
Gloria Swanson - Sunset Boulevard
Judy Garland - A Star Is Born
Judith Anderson - Rebecca
Susan Sarandon - Dead Man Walking
Judi Dench - Her Majesty Mrs Brown
Faye Dunaway - Network

Hi, tedstrong.com here. I'll comment on this if I may. Leigh was special, but I don't particularly like Streetcar. I think it's overdone. I like Watson. I love Lee Remick. Haven't yet seen Wine and Roses though. Swanson is fun in Sunset Blvd. Garland in A Star is Born? I don't think so. Talk about ham. Judith Anderson, Rebecca, good. I don't like Sarandon and I haven't yet seen Dead Man Walking -- although Jack Black is in it. Judi Dench is outstanding -- always. Love her. Dunaway is great. She made some really great movies all in this little tiny space of less than 10 years: Bonnie and Clyde, Chinatown, Thomas Crown Affair, Little Big Man, Network..
