Hot
Movie Links (and other links)!
I was talking
to my friend Deana on the IM one day, I think she was stuck at work on
a Saturday with nothing to do, so she asked me to recommend sites. Then
I thought, hey these are some good links, I think I'll put them on my
links page. My links page was originally a movies links page, but I think
I'll expand it to include any links I like. Problem is, as this grows
it's going to be very difficult to index. Oh well, we'll Glenn that Ford
when we come to it. Of course a lot of these links won't be around forever,
if you notice they are dead links, send me a note... tedstrong@tedstrong.com.
And now Deana's links:
Adding new
ones at the top now:
- Raven's site, myairshoes.com: She updates it "daily with new fashion/sports related products and information."
- My old friend Max Handelman has co-authored a book with an Erik Barmack called Why Fantasy Football Matters: (And Our Lives Do Not) available at Amazon.
- Oh Henry!! Love dogs? Got a dog? Got a car? Does your dog mess up your car with dirt, hair, what-have-you? Check out Tamara's Oh Henry's site at http://www.carcoverall.com. Coveralls for cars for dogs and owners with dogs.
- Here's a cool site that has lots of info on great European/French film related things: http://flickhead.blogspot.com/
- On Oct 18, 2005, my wonderful friend Patricia wrote: "this is the website for the magazine i wanted to give you (but forgot to) -- it is really hysterical -- i laughed out loud many times while reading this on the subway. http://www.stayfreemagazine.org"
- I had seen this McQueen mug shot before, as well as visited this site. But Pete emailed it to me today, and I thought I'd tell you about it: The Smoking Gun.
- On Oct 21, 2005, Martin Pulaski wrote to me: "I've been reading you and watching your great photos and absorbing your movie stories since I can't remember when. My native language is Dutch, not English. I have a weblog called http://hoochiekoochie.skynetblogs.be with a link to your site. So sorry you can't read Dutch [me too!], but maybe one day I'll try the English language... [Your English seems already much better than my Dutch -- or my second language of any choice...] I admire your presence in this world. If you're interested, I also have a flickr page: www.flickr.com/photos/martinpulaski/. If you like these things, you're welcome. Kind regards..."
- My friend Amy says: "Surprisingly, I had never been to Nigella's site. Look how hot she looks!! Yowza!! LOVE that woman!!"
- My friend Julia has a new blog. Check it out; it's fresh and hot!
- Al Weisel wrote me the other day: Dear Ted: I just wanted to let you know that we have just put up a website for the book Live Fast, Die Young: The Wild Ride of Making Rebel Without a Cause, which is being published in October 2005 by Simon & Schuster/Touchstone in case you were interested in linking to it: http://www.livefastdieyoungbook.com Thank you very much.
- Brad Lang's site on Classic Movies is loaded with links and stuff!
- Love Lost? Love Vincent (the dog)? Check it: http://fan.revolution-exodus.net/vincent.
- An actual "movie" link here, Brainpower: Ken Russell's Billion Dollar Brain Reassessed... Ken Russell's bizarre cold war thriller features Harry Palmer, the anti-Bond by Mark Dellar at Bright Lights Film Journal.
- Rex Linn plays Detective Frank Tripp on CSI Miami. This is his official site.

- Roger Ebert's new site, www.rogerebert.com.

- A detailed informative article from Salon.com on the film masterpiece Mulholland Drive: http://www.salon.com.
- Check out this cool British site, bobdonutandbird, where you can buy British tshirts with clever slogans on them. But remember, they are coming from "British-land" or "Britain" or "Great Britain" or "England" and so -- cost extra -- and in pounds!
- A sweet article on the changing tide of criticism in re the flawed masterpiece/film oddity Casino Royale (1967) -- from BrightLightsFilm.com.
- Roger Ebert takes a break from films to write an essay entitled: Public Prayer Fanatics Borrow Page from Enemy's Script. Ebert points out something that I like to keep pointing out to the conservatives and religious fanatics: "The pledge, written in 1892, had those words (under God) added to it in 1954 by politicians." This article is no longer available at the Sun-Times site, so I have posted it here.
- Check out this video/song, Plug Me In from the band Add n to (x) at Ifilm.com.

- http://privilegedlife.org/Asia/shanghai/shanghai6.html -- Interesting travelogue site.
-- This site contains nudity. But, like PG-13 nudity.
- Perry
Garvin and Amber
Shipley sent Mr C a get well note when he had an anal gland infection.
These are their blogs.
- My
friend Jesse Ash, of somewhere on the East Coast, has an uncle. His
uncle, Martin Torgoff, has just written Can't
Find My Way Home, published
this month by Simon & Schuster. The book reviews "the American
experience with illicit drug use throughout the last century to present."
Book reviews include this month's Playboy and next month in
the Washington Post Book Review. As a good nephew, Jesse's
goal is to spread the word about the book's release. Here is Martin's
website for
more information.

- DVD, etc Producers:
- DVDFILE.com
-- With so many DVDs pouring into the marketplace, sometimes you need
a little guidance before hitting the video store (or Netflix). DVDFILE.com
is a consumer-oriented site that offers exhaustive information about
the DVD world. There's info about upcoming releases, disc reviews, discussion
boards, petitions to get your favorite films released on DVD, news on
bootlegs and glitches, and great techie FAQ for neophytes. DVDFILE
has been around since 1998 and has amassed a large database of thoughtful
reviews that you can trust (they praise Monsoon Wedding and make fun
of Beaches). The most useful part of the site is the exhaustive review
section, which describes not only the movie, but also the audio and
video quality and any supplemental content. And for those looking to
buy, the reviews can link to a price list for major online retailers.

too unstable.
- Very funny,
very strange site from Japan -- Candygirl
& Fantastic -- but marketed to the US. I think they sell blow
up dolls for sexual pleasure. You just gotta see it. It could be a gag
site by some college kids, I haven't spent enough time on it. Although
my "Candygirl Latex with beautifull face, changeable head, removable
arms and legs, can sit possible" should arrive any day...

- Very brief

- Movies
are very important. Of course, most of them suck, or are mediocre at
best, but the greatest of cinema is art. This page will grow. The first
great film site is Internet
Movie Database (imdb.com).
Do you have a question about who was in a film, what films a particular
actor was in, who directed what film, who did the music, what awards
a film one, what films are coming out soon or are being made, when an
actor or director or producer or writer was born and where and when
and where he died, and the list goes on... you go to the Internet
Movie Database.
- Movie Review
Query Engine (mrqe.com)
is a great site that gets together links to film reviews in various
publications, etc. For instance, if you want to see reviews for Catch
Me If You Can, you just type in Catch Me If You Can into the little
box and hit enter and then a list of reviews from various sites (SF
Chronicle, NY Times, LA Times, Premiere, Movieline, Salon, etc) appears
magically! Well, not magically.
- Scott Esmond's www.breckcomm.com (non movie-related)

- Film restoration is very important. I will try to make this as short
and painless as possible for the layman. Movies sit on shelves and the
film celluloid dissolves. Right now I am unsure of the numbers, but
apparently more than half of the films made before 1950 no longer exist.
They will never be seen by us, they are impossible to get back. I know
that at least one early Hitchcock film is gone. All that survives of
it is about 6 still photos. So... some important film restoration links to learn more, and to support,
and all that whatever are...

will help you find out the name of that song in that TV commercial
or movie trailer. This site is indispensible. Most recently I found
out that the song in the Levi's commercial with the guy and girl in
the street with the stampeding buffaloes is Summer by Mogwai on the
album Ten Rapid. Buy
the album. Watch the advert
at the Levi's site.
