Nate Sequeira

Nate Sequeira (no one knows how to pronounce it) is this big, tall friend of mine. I don't usually like to hang out with him, because he makes me look short. He's like 6'10". Anyway, I was out last night with him and he was like, "hey, I emailed my list and it's not up?" and I was like, "hmmmm, I must have not followed through" because I did recollect Nate sending me his list. Here it is finally up! Nate!

Here is a list of films (perhaps not THE LIST, but a list, nonetheless) that deserve consideration. Because they are films. But it is impossible for me to put them in Order. Because there is no Order. There is only Zuul.

1. Fletch
2. Friday
3. Bikini Carwash Company 2 (the unrated version)
4. Time Bandits
5. Better Off Dead
6. Dinosaur Island
7. Airplane
8. Deer Hunter
9. Catcher in the Eye (starring Holden Cumfield)
10. Godfather 1&2
11. Chinatown
12. Hard Boiled
13. Batman
14. The Wild Bunch
15. Serpico
16. The Dead Zone
17. Glengarry Glen Ross
18. Once Upon a Time in China II (w/Jet Li)
19. The Usual Suspects
20. The Meaning of Life

When rating people's movie lists, first I remove any films I haven't seen:

1. Fletch
4. Time Bandits
5. Better Off Dead
7. Airplane
10. Godfather 1&2
11. Chinatown
13. Batman
14. The Wild Bunch
15. Serpico
16. The Dead Zone
17. Glengarry Glen Ross
19. The Usual Suspects
20. The Meaning of Life

Then I remove any sign of Chevy Chase:

4. Time Bandits
5. Better Off Dead
7. Airplane
10. Godfather 1&2
11. Chinatown
13. Batman
14. The Wild Bunch
15. Serpico
16. The Dead Zone
17. Glengarry Glen Ross
19. The Usual Suspects
20. The Meaning of Life

Now what do we have? Time Bandits and Better Off Dead I haven't seen in decades. Airplane! was funny, but I feel like it's gotten old. The first two Godfather films and Chinatown are pure masterworks. Batman? Is that the 1966 West/Ward film or Tim Burton's? The first one is fun camp with a great supporting cast (Romero, Meredith, Gorshin, Napier, Hamilton, Meriweather), the second is more of Burton's visually dazzling, but otherwise largely empty filmmaking. The Wild Bunch and Serpico are more masterworks. The Dead Zone. I like the Dead Zone. I like things in it, but like most sci-fi films, two-thirds of the way through it falls apart. I need to see Glengarry Glen Ross again. I saw it when it first came out, liked it. Need to see it again. The Usual Suspects is great, just saw it again. The Meaning of Life, I get those Python skit movies mixed up.
